It's all about the location

Famous for its military strategic location, Santa Maria a Monte has always been an object of desire for its several neighbouring cities. And to this day, its location remains wonderfully strategic, only now for tourists. Enjoy the beauty Tuscany has to offer from this Medieval gem: away from the busy crowded masses, but still so close to be just a short drive away to the must-see destinations of Florence, Pisa, Lucca, San Gimignano, and of course the very famous wine region of Chianti - all within an hour's drive from Santa Maria a Monte.

Santa Maria a Monte itself has plenty to offer: fascinating strolls through the enchanting Medieval village square, towers, subterranean passages, natural water reservoirs, narrow winding roads and breathtaking vistas from the fortified walls.

The weekly farmer's market is definitely worth a visit, enjoy an authentic Italian experience alongside the villagers buying  produce for the week, and immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of the locals to the backdrop of the musical banter of the market vendors. Shop for fantastic deals on everything from artisan crafts, designer quality clothes and shoes, as well as locally farmed and prepared tasty foods.

And if you need to unplug, there are hours of trails for peaceful walks through the  surrounding beautiful Tuscan countryside.

"This accommodation is just amazing, well located 30 mins from Pisa or the sea. The reception is very good too. With more than enough to make a breakfast ... Accommodation of excellent quality and impeccable. The room is spacious and very well decorated. We had a great time. We will definitely be back."                                                                                         A - Valence, France

Location

Santa Maria a Monte is a quaint village castled on a rolling hill in the central-eastern part of Tuscany. Its unique swirling snail shape is a clear example of Medieval urban development. The three rounds of city walls earned Santa Maria a Monte the title of most solid and best equipped castle in Tuscany.
